anyone know if the starter bolts are a special thread/length? would a normal small block chevy starter bolts work? I have a truck without a starter and bolts. im trying to piece it back together.

the starter bolts are 10 x 1.50 thread in the help section at most parts stores you can get a set that with I think it is 3 washer per long bolt works but you need to sets to get to long bolts. That is what I did in a pinch. So far no problems.

Napa should either stock or be able to order you in a set of starter bolts. I'm sure other parts stores can too... but I believe I looked them up at Napa at one time.

MINE are 10 mm x 1.50 there has never been a sbc with 10mm starter bolts. I know that a 3\8 bolt will thread into a 10x 1.50 hole. So are you sure that you have the right thread?

Standard starter bolts are close but not quite. The thread for 6.2/6.5 bolt is metric pitch rather than standard. Will hold but not great. with all the torque that these starter get it's only a matter of time before they snap. The other thing they have which regular bolts don't is a cross hatched area which acts like a bushing in the bolt holes to keep everything snug. Don't risk your block using standard bolts. Even if the ear on the block doesn't break the bolts may and it's no fun getting them out. Oh and my Napa didn't have them and had no listing for them. GM dealer part. I think it was $15 cnd for both
